Summer programmes NJO announced!

30 april 2021

Now that we see the sun appearing more and more often and the days are getting longer, we are starting to feel an itch: summer and with it our summer projects are coming! We are working hard behind the scenes on the programmes and are happy to announce this summer's NJO projects. Of course we will take into account all possible restrictions that will apply at that time. It concerns no less than four NJO programmes, which can all be seen during the festival Muziekzomer Gelderland, but also outside of it.

The complete NJO Symphony Orchestra led by French conductor Alexandre Bloch works under the title "Naar een nieuwe wereld" (Towards a new world) on pieces by Bernstein, Copland and Dvoƙák. In addition to the final concert of the Muziekzomer, the orchestra will also play in the Concertgebouw and (subject to change) in Romania.

In 2016, violinist and king of gypsy jazz Tim Kliphuis visited the NJO and that was a great success. This year, the NJO Tim Kliphuis Ensemble returns with a series of exciting performances in which improvisation is central and classical, jazz and gypsy go hand in hand.

Under the direction of conductor Jasper de Waal, the nineteen musicians of the NJO Copper Ensemble prepare a program together with choreographer / director Vincent Michels and Corpus Acrobatics. Water is central to this performance and the concerts take place on and near the water in Park Presikhaaf in Arnhem and the pond at Jachthuis Sint Hubertus in De Hoge Veluwe National Park.

The two tuba players and two euphonium players of the NJO Copper Ensemble will stay a little longer in Gelderland than their ensemble mates, because they also play in the NJO Tubakwartet. This programme, in which the special sound of the low brass plays the leading role, will of course also be heard at various beautiful locations during the Muziekzomer, including Kroondomein Het Loo and the Ermelose Sheepfold.

Dates and ticket sales

The concerts during the Muziekzomer and in the Concertgebouw will take place between Friday 30 July and Sunday 15 August, after which the NJO Symphony Orchestra will travel to Romania. Ticket sales for the Concertgebouw start on 3 May, and for the Muziekzomer in June.

Become a Friend of the NJO (if you were not already of course) and you can be the very first to make your choice, at a discount, from the performances of the orchestras and ensembles of the NJO and all other performances of the Muziekzomer.

Keep an eye on the concert schedule and our Facebook and Instagram pages for more announcements and all the latest news!
