Programme & planning

Throughout the year, NJO plans several projects, including an annual NJO Winter Tour and Summer Festival and Tour. There are usually several orchestral projects during the NJO Summer Festival and extra projects in cooperation with a diverse range of partners.

The following projects are being prepared by NJO:

Defiant Requiem 2021

This project was originally planned for May 2020 to celebrate 75 years of liberation and to honour the inhabitants of Theresienstadt Concentration Camp who performed Verdi’s Requiem several times throughout their imprisonment. The project has been rescheduled several times due to the corona measures and is provisionally scheduled in the autumn of 2021 (see details further down).

NJO Brass Ensemble 

The brass ensemble will give several performances during the NJO Summer Festival in the period from 31 July to 3 August 2021. Euphonium and tuba players participating in this project automatically also participate in the Tuba project (see below).

Auditions Registration for auditions for vacancies in the brass ensemble is possible for musicians studying at European conservatoires outside of the Netherlands and Belgium from 30 March to 9 May 2021. You can find more details on our Audition information page.
Rehearsals

Rehearsals for the brass project will start on Monday 26 July 2021 and will last until the end of the project on 3 August 2021. These rehearsals will a.o. take place in Theater Orpheus, Apeldoorn. Details per project will be announced as soon as the schedule is known.

Concerts

Concerts will take place during the NJO Summer Festival, scheduled from 31 July to 15 August 2021. Details about concerts (when scheduled) can be found in the events calender.

NJO Tuba Quartet 

The tuba quartet will give several performances during the NJO Summer Festival in the period from 31 July to 8 August 2021. Euphonium and tuba players participating in this project automatically also participate in the brass project (see above).

NJO Tim Kliphuis Ensemble 

Violinist and improvisation guru Tim Kliphuis sets to work on a jazz and improvisation trajectory, the results of which can be heard in several concerts during the NJO Summer Festival. The Tim Kliphuis Ensemble does, in terms of planning, not overlap with the NJO Symphony Orchestra.

NJO Symphony Orchestra

The NJO Symphony Orchestra will work on several symphonic works, including a piece with a soloist. The NJO Symphony Orchestra will be working towards a series of concerts in the Netherlands and Romania.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals for the NJO Symphony Orchestra will take place prior to concerts in the Netherlands and a tour through Romania in the period from 8 to 22 August 2021. Exact dates will be announced later. Rehearsals will a.o. take place in Theater Orpheus, Apeldoorn.

Concerts

Concerts will take place during the NJO Summer Festival in the period from 13 to 15 August 2021, including in the Concertgebouw on 14 August 2021 (be aware that this is a new date!) and subsequently in Romania (16 to 22 August 2021). Auditions

Applying for auditions is not possible for this project. Musicians had been selected for this project in May 2020 as well as musicians who were lined for other projects in 2020 will be given priority to participate in this project.
