In January 2026, the National Youth Orchestra will premiere the latest Symphonic Cinema film. Gustav Holst's The Planets comes to life in this unique combination of music and film. In Symphonic Cinema, the images are synchronised on stage, in real time, with the music, adding a new layer of meaning and emotion.
In addition to The Planets, the orchestra takes on Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra, another classic used in many films, such as 2001: A Space Oddysey and Barbie. A magnificent piece for the 90 young musicians and conductor Antony Hermus.
About the film
LOSS follows the journey of a soul who bids farewell to earthly life and is guided in the transition to the afterlife. Oscar winner Emma Thompson and Greg Wise play the leading roles in this story of loss and transformation. Dancers from Arts Umbrella Canada play an important role too: they form the “soul group”, a visual representation of the force that supports the main character in this transition.
